Metos Po ar heat exchanger is one part of a 3-part system. Part 1 is Proveno kettles, Part 2 is Metos Polar heat exchanger, Part 3 is a fluid chiller. There are 2 circuits in the system, ice water between the heat exchanger and the kettle and glycol between the fluid chiller and the heat exchanger.

Chilled water is produced on demand when the user activates cooling at the kettle control panel. The system is closed, and chilled water is sent from the heat exchanger to the kettle, circulated in the kettle jacket, then returns to the heat exchanger to be recycled to cold once again.

The Metos Polar heat exchanger is intended to be used for cooling one or two Metos Proveno kettles. The Proveno cooling option needs to be C3iPA. C3i is also possible but not recommended, because it will waste cold water after a cooling cycle. Metos Polar heat exchanger works with all sizes of Proveno kettles where C3iPA cooling is available (80-400 l). Note - for direct steam heated kettles C3iPA is not available, and C5iPA can be used instead of it. In this case, the cooling change-over temperature can be set to 100°C.

The setup consists of one or two Proveno kettles, Metos Polar heat exchanger, and a fluid chiller. In case of two kettles connected to one heat exchanger, cooling can be active in only one kettle at the time. Two kettles cannot be cooled at the same time. This must be considered when planning production. If two kettles are connected to one heat exchanger, the kettles must be equipped with option MG4224033 Shared heat exchanger connection.

The fluid chiller can be supplied by Metos or can be supplied by a third party, according to specification supplied by Metos. The fluid chiller is not included in the price of the heat exchanger.

Piping, signal cables, connectors are not included in the code of the heat exchanger, and local installers are responsible for plumbing and electrical installations.

Fluid chiller requirements

Metos Polar heat exchanger shall be placed indoors, preferably as close to the kettle(s) as possible. It can be placed inside the kitchen or in a technical space equipped with a floor drain. Heat exchanger shall be placed on the same floor with the kettle(s) or one floor below - never above. There is a closed cooling water circuit between the heat exchanger and the kettle(s).

Fluid chiller is placed outside following the instructions and guidelines given by the manufacturer. There is a glycol-water circuit between the fluid chiller and heat exchanger. Suggested/supported chiller models are described in the Metos Polar spec sheet. Other models can be used as long as the cooling power is equal to the suggested models, they can produce 0°C water, and they can be turned on/off with external potential free control signal.

The unit needs space for service 50cm on front, back and top sides. To optimize cooling performance and energy efficiency, the water pipes or hoses shall be insulated with Armaflex or equivalent insulation material. The nominal flow of cooling water is 90 l/min and the pressure in the cooling water outlet line during operation is about 3 bar.
